Miracle Water From Lourdes

What Supernatural Event Took Place There?

The Marian apparitions at Lourdes were reported in 1858 by St. Bernadette Soubirous, a 14-year-old from the town of Lourdes in southern France. From 11th of February to the 16th of July 1858, she encountered 18 apparitions of our lady. St. Bernadette Soubirous described our lady as wearing a white veil and a blue girdle; she had a golden rose on each foot and held a rosary of pearls. These apparitions where declared to be worthy of belief after a canonical investigation by the church. St.Bernadette visions occurred at the grotto of Massabielle. She visited the grotto for the last time and said: "I have never seen her so beautiful before." On 18th of January 1860, the local bishop declared: "The Virgin Mary did appear indeed to  Bernadette ." St. Bernadette was canonized a saint in 1933 by Pope Pius XI.

What's Miracle Water From Lourdes?

Lourdes water is water which flows from a spring in the Grotto of Massabielle in the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes. The location of the spring was described to St. Bernadette in an apparition on 25 February 1858. Since that time many thousands of pilgrims to Lourdes have followed the instruction of Our Lady of Lourdes to "drink at the spring and bathe in it". Lourdes water is considered non-liturgical Holy water. Since the apparitions, many people have been cured by drinking or bathing in it.
